Paolo Merlin
DirectorPaolo was born in South Tyrol in 1960. After graduating he joined the family business and has been managing it for many years.
In 1991, he and three colleagues founded industrial design studio MM Design. In 2011 he joined forces with Mauro Chiarel to open Alpenmade.
His years of experience working with international clients and workshops involving hundreds of producers and craftspeople – mainly in Europe – means he has become highly skilled in managing complex projects.
He has served as regional president of Italian industry confederation Confindustria and provincial president of its Young Entrepreneurs’ Group.
He fluently speaks German and has a good level of English and Russian.
Mauro Chiarel
DirectorMauro was born in South Tyrol in 1958. He formerly taught at the Technical Institute for Technology in Bolzano-Bozen, and led the lab carrying out tests on materials. He worked in a number of countries in South America as Head of Professional Training Centres.
In 1994 he founded consultancy firm Tangram S.r.l. before co-founding Alpenmade in 2011.
He has been a member of the Board of Creanova Professional Association at the University of the Basque Country, Bilbao.
He speaks Spanish fluently. He loves having friends over for dinner and is a big fan of the work of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, which of course he reads in Spanish.
Our story
Alpenmöbel is born
Alpenmöbel is a small family-run artisan workshop in South Tyrol. It grows as the years pass, and begins to specialise in producing hotel furniture, developing specialist skills while staying rooted in the values of the area where it all began.
Alpenmöbel goes global
Paolo Merlin takes over as Alpenmöbel’s CEO. Under his leadership the company begins expanding internationally, opening itself up to markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Alpenmade is born
Paolo Merlin and Mauro Chiarel take on the challenges of the modern world and found Alpenmade, an integrated service platform facilitating comparisons and trade at all levels, coordinating and overseeing production, and offering consultancy services.
Alpenmade today: a service platform
Today, Alpenmade is a service platform which brings together architects, designers, suppliers, craftspeople, fitters, transporters, and clients. It is a one-stop sales platform offering end-to-end service and ensuring assistance is given before, during, and after a job is commissioned.
